Write Often to Generate Website Traffic

Write often to generate traffic to your website and increase the possibility to increase potential customers for your business. By adding website pages, blog posts and articles online about your business niche, you increase the number of links to your website.

When you write consistently on your website or blog, you add more pages to be indexed by search engines. More pages gives you potential to be found by potential customers because search engines tend to put websites that grow more towards the front of index results.

Writing articles gives your website backlinks which is another way that search engines measure the value of a site. The more backlinks you have, the better search results you will tend to receive. Try to write about your business niche in order to have more useful information online to aid your potential customers.

Writing often can bring your website more traffic. Writing often to increase traffic to your website could get your more return visitors, referrals, customers and clients. Getting website traffic is the first step to getting more business, and writing often to increase that traffic is a great free way to do so.

Backup and Update Your Wordpress Blog

You can backup and update your Wordpress blog very easily. On your administrator dashboard, when you get notifications of a new version of Wordpress saying what the new version is, just click on that link to get started. Then you will have the option to backup your blog posts, that is up to you. I backup my blog posts in notepad anyway, and backing up is a good idea in case something ever goes wrong with your blog host.

Then you will see two options, download the update or automatically update, and I suggest the automatic update. Once you click the automatic update, just sit back and let Wordpress do the rest. In a couple minutes you'll have your updated version of Wordpress.

Next, you might see a red square with a number next to your plugins on the left column of the Wordpress dashboard. Click on those to activate them again, but there is really no reason to activate the "Hello Dolly" plugin, unless you want lines from Hello Dolly to show up on your blog.

Wordpress Advantages Over Blogger

Wordpress has advantages over Blogger for a variety of reasons. Doing a conversion from Blogger to Wordpress may be tedious depending on how many posts need to be converted, but it just may be worth the work.

On Blogger, should your account accidentally get wiped out there is no way to recover it. The database to recreate those pages is gone even if you publish posts to your own site because it lives on Blogger's servers and you'll have to recreate the content manually.

When it comes to administration and customization, WordPress offers a lot more flexibility over Blogger. Wordpress supports open source modification of the core files, categories instead of labels, and Wordpress plugins for even more features.

Another key advantage of Wordpress is the ability to have categories, the same way you have labels in Blogger. This way you can sort your blog posts efficiently and organize them by topic.

Should you consider keeping your blog for the long term, Wordpress is a better choice, and since Wordpress is hosted on your own account, you regulate your growth and expansion over time. Sure, Blogger is much easier to use, but it's good to learn how to use Wordpress to it's full potential.

Blogger to WordPress Blog Conversion

The previous custom cms website launch for Masterson Construction earlier this month included an announcement that a matching blog was planned and involved performing a Blogger to WordPress blog conversion. The general contractor matching WordPress blog has been converted and launched.

During evaluation of the blog content it was decided to enhance the seo, or search engine optimization, of all the posts going back two years. Post headlines, URLs, and on page content was changed to improve the seo value. To maintain rank value of these aged pages, custom 301 redirects were included in the htaccess file to forward external links pointing to old file names to the new file names created in the redesign. In addition to posts, labels became categories, plus archive file names all required redirects to maintain the existing seo value, as well.

Moving the existing blog to WordPress provides ease of use and near perfect xhtml code quality, plus optional plugins that were easy to install for added functions of social bookmarks, seo automation, and automatic database backup operation. While Blogger is fine, and my choice for a blog platform, WordPress is considered superior especially for site owners without advanced technical skills.

Announcing New Website Design Launches

By announcing new website design launches or projects for your small business, you can drive more traffic to your website. This approach could get you more customers because another post adds one more page you can be indexed by search engines.

Every time I launch a new website I announce it on my small business website blog in order to advertise what projects have been recently completed. The advantage is that people either in that business or looking for related topics may land on my website and see what I can do for them. In some rare cases I've found my site even ranked higher for a post I've written than the website I designed for my customer. My post then links to the customer that it was originally written to promote.

By announcing new projects for your small business website, you can promote yourself more, get more visitors to your website and eventually turn those visitors into paying customers.

10 Ways to Come Up With Blog Post Ideas

I've compiled this list of "10 ways to come up with blog post ideas" in order to make it easier for writers to get the creative juices flowing.
Hope these blog tips help!

1. Solve a Problem
Answer a question for your readers, and try to solve a problem you may have come across yourself. A great way to attract readers is to be helpful in your posts.

2. Pick a Topic and Research it Online
By thinking of a topic to write about and doing a little research, you can get the rolling start for writing in your own blog. Researching keywords can help as well.

3. Brainstorm and Write Some Headlines
Pick some headlines you feel like writing about today, and keep a list. Pick out the ones that you feel you have some great ideas about, and carry a notepad with you.

4. Ask Readers
Find out what your readers want you to write about next, or pay attention to the types of questions that come up in social media, Twitter for example.

5. Create a Post With Older Post Links
Refer to other posts you've written in the past as reference for your readers.

6. Research
Read books, newspapers, watch the news, and write about current news in your niche.

7. Write When Inspiration Hits You
The best time to write is when you're inspired to. Don't lose a thought because it was forgotten, so carry a notepad or voice recorder with you for when good ideas hit you.

8. Take Breaks
When the stream of ideas starts to fade, take a break and refresh yourself. We all need food, drink and rest to function properly, so don't forget the bare necessities.

9. Read Other Blog Posts
Subscribing and reading what others are writing about is a great inspirational tool to get the creative juices flowing.

10. Write About What You've Learned
If you've learned something and find it useful, don't hesitate to share. Nothing brings your readers back faster than when you've taught them something they can really use.

Whitehat SEO and Blackhat SEO Methods

Comparing whitehat SEO and blackhat SEO methods involves understanding of the terms. Picture the good guy and the villain in old western film. The difference in whitehat and blackhat SEO are comparatively the same.

Whitehat techniques use usability to give a website page better standings in search engines by keeping the user in mind with no tricks for deceptive means of rank boosting. Whitehat SEO methods are more favored and usually have longer lasting effects than other methods.

Blackhat methods use tricks to get SEO results, such as buying backlinks to a website. Google's algorithm's can detect whether linked sites are relevant to each other, and may ban websites that use these practices. Websites that use Blackhat SEO methods usually don't last very long, and aren't good for long-term SEO results.

In comparing whitehat and blackhat methods for SEO, obviously whitehat methods outweigh blackhat ones. It may take more time to use proper actions to help your website's SEO, but in the long run it will be well worth it. Don't let the end justify the means because Google punishes deceptive promotion practices and can ban a website for it.

Getting A Website to Google Page One

Getting a website to Google page one is not something I would ever promise a client because it is something that takes time, hard work and patience. Small business website owners should realize you can't launch a website, kick back, and expect the money to roll in. By using the appropriate techniques, appearing on Google page one really is achievable.

Several factors are taken into consideration by search engines in order to decide what pages are indexed in the top rankings. A high number of pages and inbound links, appropriate keyword density, a blog, an RSS feed, and an appropriate length title, description and number of keywords are important factors. Using non-deceptive means of enhancing my own website, this site ranked on Google page one for over 30 searched key phrases, and THIS POST for position #8 out of 571,000,000 hits, the moment I published it.

Getting a website to Google page one by using non-deceptive tactics for page ranking is a key in attaining more traffic for small business website owners. Attaining more traffic leads to more potential clients, which leads to return customers, and soon your business can grow through your website.

How I Hit Google Page One in Two Months

Getting to Google page one in two months for over 30 key phrases was a surprise to me. Although I'd never promise a client the same results, I could touch on some points that are rather important to achieve a similar outcome.

Having an aged domain aided in reaching Google page one because it established seniority, even though nothing was posted for a while. Using appropriate methods for search engine optimization helped this website too. By using appropriate keyword density, adding content often and writing to solve a problem, my website has reached excellent rankings with Google.

Some things I didn't do helped page rankings as well. By not using deceptive methods to attract traffic such as stuffing keywords or buying inbound links, Google doesn't punish my website for deceptive practices. In doing research of the top 10 sites for given keywords, I've noticed a couple things in common, including a high number of site pages and inbound links, but Google rewards those who don't try to deceive.

By using appropriate methods of search engine optimization to reach page one rankings in Google in only one month of effort, I've received more traffic, which translates into more potential customers and clients.

Attaching Blog Posts to External Sources

Attaching blog posts to external sources can add value to your blog posts for various reasons. By realizing that blogs add pages to a website, small business website owners can gain ranking with Google even more by linking those posts to multiple other blogging websites.

Once a website is added to external blogging sources on the web, this links posts to other websites, just by adding a single post. Add a new post every two or three days, and now a small business website owner could potentially gain a dozen links in a single week. I use Zimbio and Blogflux myself, and have found that by doing a Google search of my name, now links to these sites are provided in connection with my business name, Coderepair. Just by adding to a couple weblog posting sites has improved my accessibility online with Google.

Attach a blog post to external sources on the internet to add value, page ranking, and accessibility to your small business website page, and eventually, those increased website page visitors may have a greater chance of being converted into customers.

Social Media Marketing to Improve Traffic

Using social media marketing to improve traffic to a small business website can be both advantageous and profitable. Some approaches include the small business website owner to write about what people care about, start a buzz on Twitter and Facebook, use social bookmarks, and share with like-minded individuals.

If you write about something that interests people, your post may have a better chance being picked up on the internet. Posting on Twitter, an amazing resource for spreading news, links and current events, can incorporate small business website owners into a web of followers. Using social bookmarks such as Digg, Zimbio and Blogflux will incorporate multiple blog resources to bring small business website owners traffic to their site. Sharing content with like-minded individuals may translate to greater traffic to a small business website also. Video, linking, email and podcasts are some other good media devices which can spread your word as well.

Using social media marketing to improve visitor hits is helpful to increase internet traffic to any small business website. A small business website owner should include as many types of media that is relevant to aid in the constant forge ahead to page one of Google.

Obtaining a Winning Website

Obtaining a winning website invloves consideration of multiple factors. With well over 150 million websites online now, trying to come up with a winning site is close in comparison to winning the lottery. Some try to see the forest through the trees, while others spend their time studying the individual atoms that make up the bark. The trick is finding a balance between the two, combining them and perhaps raise your chances of ranking close to page one.

Sometimes finding a niche that has little competition may aid in receiving a decent page ranking, and other times techniques to increase SEO can help too. With about 1.3 billion internet users to date (doubling every 5.32 years), chances are someone will find your website. Balancing pleasant design, creativity, perfect code, accessibility, and adding content often, both original and high quality, can greatly increase a website's SEO. Combine these attributes and control the "lottery" to increase your small business website's chances, keeping in mind that the objective is getting to Google page one.

Obtaining a winning small business website involves an immense combination of criteria for any site owner. The balance of webdesign techniques may aid in the traffic and page ranking a site receives. Though there is no magic formula for the perfect webpage, incorporating multiple techniques can help small business website owners turn their site visitors into customers.

Tips on Writing Blog Posts

Writing blog posts for your small business website is an important element to keep fresh content constantly added, in order to add SEO. A blog is a great place to offer your visitors useful information and advice, as I do, giving your readers a reason to visit your website often. I thought I would compile a summary of tips and pointers I use to write effective blog posts.

Write for your reader in an informal yet appropriate fashion, making it as easy to understand as if you were talking to a friend or relative. Write about what you are comfortable with, such as your business or reviews of opinions or new topics that have come up within your niche of business. Offer advice, write about things you've recently learned, and things you have discussed with clients to draw your readers in for your next post.

Include tags and labels in your posts, to link to outside sources and include them when you publish with Blogger. Also, write a few posts and set them to schedule every few days in Blogger, so they go out automatically even when you aren't writing. Do research on topics related to your business and inform your readers on things you've learned. Write about a problem, the action taken to solve it, and the results of these actions.

Using these tips on writing blog posts can effectively improve your small business website, increase your traffic and your page ranking over a period of time.

Natural Methods for SEO

It is very important to use natural methods for search engine optimization because Google could give penalties for doing otherwise. In order to avoid penalties by search engines, it helps to understand what methods are frowned upon.

Correct methods for increasing search engine optimization include adding content as often as possible, keeping track of your keyword density in the process. Adding too many instances of keywords and key phrases is called "Stuffing" and search engines don't regard it well. Having too few keywords in a page can make a website virtually "invisible" to search engines, so avoiding that is a good practice. Finding a good balance may help improve a small business website's page ranking and reputation with Google, and around a 4 percent keyword density is recommended. This can be optimized in a downloadable program known as DupeFree Pro. Simply copy and paste the text, type the keyword in the box and click "Keyword Density".

Having duplicate content online is HIGHLY frowned upon in Google and other search engines. Copying copywritten material WILL GET CAUGHT and penalized, so avoiding this is mandatory. Again, using DupeFree Pro can help small business website owners avoid duplicate content by copy and pasting text in the text box, and then click "online".

Another mistake made by small business website owners is "Blasting" their website, sending your website link to thousands of emails. Blasting is an improper practice which can get your site considered as "spam" or unsolicited bulk email. Search engines pick up on this, and next thing your website may be "Blacklisted" putting your site at the end of the list in search engines. Avoiding this can keep your small business website online and aid in the increase of search engine optimization.

Practicing natural methods for search engine optimization like using optimum keyword density, avoiding duplicate content, and not blasting your website may give small business website owners the edge other sites online. Keep your content informative, original, and keep it coming in order to let your visitors know you are there to help by using natural methods of increasing search engine optimization.

Therefore, the sooner a company gets up and running, the more of a chance it has receiving a better page rank.

In order to have an aged site, the sooner your small business website appears online the better. If you are not online yet, there is no better time than now. Stickiness for Effective Websites

Stickiness is necessary for a website to be effective, sometimes websites die off quickly because of lack of stickiness. Stickiness can be enhanced within your webpage as well as in blog posts. Successful blogs depend upon having loyal readers who come back on a regular basis. Creating a groups of loyal readers is based on quality information in your posts, and keeping your blog content original and interesting.

First of all, understand what stickiness is and how to increase it in your website. Stickiness is defined as "The amount of time spent at a site over a given time period". Stickiness is anything about a website that encourages a potential customer to stay longer and return on a regular basis, and is measured by the average minutes each month that website visitors spend at a website, and sometimes measured by "page views". Website stickiness is a comparison of number of visits to a webpage (repeat usage) versus the time spent per usage (session stickiness). A website is considered "Sticky" if someone is encouraged to stay for a period of time and returns regularly. Provide wanted content, allow site personalization and invite user feedback with a "comments" section. Indicators of loyalty and site views are very important measures that websites can offer advertisers.

Stickiness for effective websites means that more people will be attracted to your site and remain there longer. Stick to the topics and stay focussed to go in-depth on single subjects. By increasing your website's stickiness you can increase your webpage's popularity and page ranking.

Keyword Optimization Tips

Small business website owners may have difficulty incorporating the appropriate keywords and key phrases to accurately describe their small business website. By choosing the appropriate keywords and key phrases, search engines can index your website better, faster, and perhaps give the edge needed to raise website ranking.

Choose keywords and key phrases that accurately describe your business. Don't use pronouns or vague descriptors such as this, that or it. The words in your title are should be included in the body of your website page or blog to positively influence how well search engines index and find your website.

Another tip is to make a list of keywords possibly entered to find your website online. Then by researching those keywords online at a site known as Keyworddiscovery.com, you can find out what the best possible keywords are to target your website. You can integrate their data into your own tools and search terms that drive traffic to websites by specific categories.

Proper keyword density is also important to gain a competitive edge over the competition. Download a program known as DupefreePro to check for duplicate content online and how many times keywords appear in each webpage by number and percentage. Keyword density should fall within 2% to 6% for optimum search engine results.

Using proper keywords and keyword density for your website can give the edge needed to succeed over your small business website's competition.

Small Business Website Navigation

One problem a user may find on a website is difficulty finding the information desired in a timely fashion. It is the function of the designer to make website navigation simple or else site visitors may leave quickly, eliminating the possibility of becoming a potential customer.

The main object of a website's main page is to invite the visitor to continue searching within your website. The first impression is detrimental to keeping a visitor on your website. Making navigation buttons and photos clearly visible may help make the visitor's experience interesting. Make the main page about the visitor's need, and your desire to fulfill that requirement, because web surfers don't always search for a certain product or service, but when they arrive there, they may come to a realization that they require what you offer.

Objectively develop your website with the visitor in mind, and you could increase your traffic, improve your search engine optimization, and your online business online may become more popular. By word of mouth, your website could exponentially grow. The next thing you know, your small business website gains more attention by visitors and search engines alike.

Comparison of Static and Dynamic Sites

One of the first obstacles to overcome upon beginning a small business website, is the creation of your main page. You only can make one first impression, so the challenge is to make a positive one and draw your potential customers into your small business with good search engine optimization.

Depending whether you need a dynamic or static small business website will determine the work or cost it will take to launch. Static websites generally just sit there and have no options for interaction except for email. Static sites may not generate traffic, but are cheaper to run. Dynamic small business websites include secure and advanced online functions such as ecommerce, shopping carts, secure login, and generally need maintenance such as adding products and adjusting prices.

Important content contained in dynamic small business websites may include text, graphics, photos, audio, video, music, logos, trademarks and other artwork. You may or may not need all of these types of media, but you should maintain a simple message, positive first impression and a professional design. If you do, you may need a dynamic website design, and the proper decision may improve search engine optimization.

Deciding between a static and dynamic small business website depends on how much information, time and effort you want to put into your site. Static sites generally are for information purposes and just sit there, where dynamic ones usually use more functions. Gearing your small business product or service accordingly will determine whether you get the search engine results you desire.

Benefits of Blog Tags and Labels

Deciding what tags and labels to include on your small business website log, or blog, is one of the first challenges to face. First, understand the difference between the terms: Tags and Labels, and secondly use that knowledge to direct more traffic to your small business website, thus increasing usability and backlinks for search engine optimization.

A blog should be an informal account of your thoughts of the day, talking to your audience like you would to a friend. The tags and labels within your blogs are used primarily to aid your website visitors. Blogs contain tags and labels, which are important key words and phrases that assist with navigation either to or around your website pages. Tags lead visitors to your small business website and are a link to Technorati that create backlinks for bringing traffic to your website, adding promotional value to your blog. Blog tags should be simple, 3 words or less using key words, because keyword tags are more likely to attract visitors to your blog.

Once visitors arrive on your small business website, labels are keywords within your site which organize your posts and refer visitors to other pages in your website with related topics. Like a filing system, labels group your blog posts into categories, and both tags and labels should be contained in the content body of the blog post they are in.

Using tags and labels can facilitate navigation within your small business website, and help search engines find you easier as well. Using appropriate tags and labels for your content will aid search engines in finding you on the internet, and help navigation of your web pages to your visitors once they arrive there.

Blog Often to Increase SEO

Letting a website sit idle by not adding content often enough may force it to die off within a few months, and it will never receive an esteemed ranking with Google or other search engines. Another important point is that having improper keyword density, or KD, is just like having no keywords in your site at all. A low keyword density will get you penalized, and too many or "stuffing" keywords into a page will be picked up on by search engines as well. It's wrong to try to use deceptive practices in order to reach page one of Google.

Blogging with original quality content as often as possible is important, even if it is only once or twice a month, but obviously, the more posts the better. Search engines know if content has been added, and reward those who add fresh content on a regular basis. Also, an appropriate keyword density of around 4 percent is rather important to optimize your search engine optimization, or SEO. Keyword density is a percentage ratio of number of instances of a keyword on a single web page, divided by the total number of words on that page. Keyword density can be easily calculated by a downloadable program from a site known as Dupefree Pro.

Blogging approximately once or twice a week can improve your page ranking because blogs give search engines more resources for visitors to link to your page. Also,it will give you an edge over the 90 percent of small business website owners who do not blog regularly, and the page ranking, or PR, of your small business website is more likely to increase. Again, maintain a keyword density at or close to 4% in order for search engines to find you more often, and your stats with Google will undoubtedly improve greatly.

Micro Small Business Website Ownership

Of the approximate 6 million small business enterprises in the USA, those with 20 or fewer employees are still the vast majority. 5.23 million have fewer than 20 employees, and only 760,000 have 20 or more. These are the latest published statistics from the US Census Bureau, and the breakdown is rounded off as follows:

Total Number of Small Businesses in USA by Size

20,000 with 500+ employees
110,000 with 100+ employees
630,000 with 20+ employees
5,230,000 with 20 or less

5,990,000 Total Number

Micro small business website ownership of at least one home page is more than 70%. Of those, only 5% have added a small business blog to their site according to a NY Times piece reported in December 2007, and entitled Blogging’s a Low-Cost, High Return Marketing Tool.

Based on this 5% which may be slightly higher according to others tracking data, there are only 299,500 small business websites with blogs. If you are one of the 30% of small business owners without a website, or one of the 95% without a blog, my advice is starting now with this low cost marketing tool to promote your small business. Let us know how we can help with your strategy of keeping up with or staying ahead of the competition.
