Online Communication Evolution

webdesign advertisement
The communication evolution began in primative times with smoke signals. Soon with the invention of electricity, morse code and telegraphs became our primary forms of communication. Letters in the mail took a very long time until the telephone’s invention in 1876.

The telephone’s become a mainstream way to talk to people so far away, even to this day. From the telephone we added electronic mail, or e mail replacing envelopes and postage, currently referred to as “snail mail”.

The way we communicate is constantly changing. The primary form or communication used to be the telephone, although it still is very popular, video chatting is the growing alternative. With video chat on instant messenger, Skype, and even chatrooms such as Stickam and Tinychat, we’re becoming more comfortable with seeing who we’re talking to.

Smartphones have video and microphone capabilities built right into them and give the user the option of video conferencing at any time of the day. We use social media like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter to keep in touch with every detail about each other’s lives, up to the minute. Communication with people isn’t the only factor, but now we even have the need to communicate with robots and programs.

With online shopping, banking and even remotely controlling lights and appliances in your home, we’re seeing communication go beyond the realm of just people. We have gadgets to communicate with other gadgets around the home and office, from the TV remote to the bluetooth on your cell phone.

How many more hours will we spend on the phone with a computer voice prompting us through a neverending path of virtual menus just with the hope and intention to instead have someone to whom we can explain our needs? Our evolution in technology has taken away the personal touch of talking to an actual person in the customer service department.

Now anyone can get in touch with anyone else with ease. I see 5 year olds with cell phones and his grandpa is checking his hotmail online. Grandma’s bluetooth is connected to her iPhone and my older relatives are reuniting and connecting on Facebook. It’s a great time to grab the communication revolution by the horns and see what it has in store for you.

SEO to Improve Website Stickiness

Utilizing SEO to improve your website’s stickiness could be a great way to gain more traffic from website visitors and possibly increase the income of your business. The more visitors that arrive at your website strengthens any chances to gain more potential customers. The first challenge is to define how stickiness and SEO work.

First to define the difference between stickiness and SEO. SEO is what gets websurfers online to arrive on your website, whereas stickiness is what keeps them there. Of course more information on your website will encourage your website visitors to dig more into your information and resources, but the key is to have what you offer to be easily accessible. Using links that direct your online visitors to what they are looking for is important so navigation is easy for them.

Of course, directing website visitors to your website to just harvest information and leave is worthless unless you can convert some of those visitors into paying customers. The importance lies in defining your business and making it clear what you offer, and what makes your company stand out above the rest. Define your business niche and give examples of why you stand above the rest. Give your website visitors a “call to action” to interest them in what you do and desire to use your services.

In my case, custom CMS website design services, I’ve gotten all my customers to Google page one for key phrases that describe their business niche. Using nondeceitful methods and techniques of SEO in a variety of ways is what separates CodeRepair from a majority of web design services offered today. Promotion is not just about a pretty website or flashy photos and videos, but just like a car, what is under the hood to drive your business to success makes an impact. Greenpois0n is a multi-platform jailbreak for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. It uses the SHAtter exploit, and is a very simple and easy to use GUI jailbreak. In the same way when you go to a car dealer, you can’t just say “I want a car, how much”, because you have to be qualified for just what you’re looking for. Having a top of the line CMS content management system allows adding content as often as possible without any extra charge.

Computer Management Shortcut Tips

Consider these computer management shortcut tips when working with documents, photos or videos. Using shortcuts is very helpful and saves time when working on anything. With quick ways of accomplishing complicated tasks, your projects will tend to run smoothly.

Some useful tips include the use of shortcut keys such as with the shift or control button. Copying text or a section of a photo can be easily done with ‘control + x’ to cut, ‘control + c’ to copy, ‘control + v’ to paste and ‘control + a’ to select all. To undo anything on a text document or a graphic, just click ‘ctrl + z’.

Here’s a great tip for moving or uploading multiple files at once, and an alternative to selecting them all by dragging the mouse and boxing them in. Highlight the first file in a group to begin. Then go to the last file you want to highlight in the group and while holding the shift key, double click on it. This should highlight the entire group in between and allow you to move, copy or upload that entire group quickly and easily. If you want to copy a file instead of moving it to another folder, drag it with the right click of your mouse.

F5 is used to refresh a website page if you want to reload it, whether for seeing new changes made or to just refresh a stale webpage. In the same way, to do a “hard refresh” simply hold control while clicking F5. ‘Alt + F4′ closes the current window you are on.

Changing photos from one format to another is simple. If you want to change a file from gif or bmp to jpeg, or vice versa, an easy way is to right click on it, choose ‘open with’, choose paint, then on the top right of paint, under ‘file’ choose ‘save as’, and choose the format you’d like to save it as. Paint is kept in your accessories folder and can be useful to resize and edit photos as well, using the options across the top.

When changing video files from wmv to mp4 or between any other formats, DVD Videosoft could be a useful option. Adding graphics to photos can be easily done with Befunky.com. Add special photo effects such as starbursts, ink, text, shapes and speech bubbles.

Basics of Advanced Google Search

Review these tips on conducting basic Google searches with advanced features. Although a simple search is quite often enough, using some advanced techniques could be helpful to further refine your results.

Quotation marks (“”) surrounding a search phrase tells Google to search for the exact words in the exact order they have been entered, without any change. Quotes are often unnecessary because Google already uses the order of words entered as a strong indication of the results. Using quotes further insists on search results focusing on only indexed pages with the words in that exact order.

The minus sign (-) indicates that you want your search results to exclude those with that word in it. The minus sign needs to have a space before it in order to be read by Google as an excluded term. For example, consider the query: anti-spyware -software. This would search for anti-spyware, but not those queries relating to software.

Use the site search (site:) to search about a topic within only a specified website. The proper way to do a query of this nature (for example only about CMS relating to this website) would be: CMS site: coderepair.com. This type of search also works for specifying an entire class of websites as well. For example: CMS site: .org, would only search for CMS websites with the .org domain.

Using the asterisk (*) is like using a wildcard telling Google to use it as a placeholder for unknown terms, and to find the best matches. For example, let’s say you did the search: Obama voted * on the * bill. This would produce results on how Obama voted on different bills.

The plus sign (+) indicates to search exactly as is, excluding any synonyms you may not want in your Google search. Use the plus sign before the search word, with no space after it to produce results excluding synonyms to that word. In essence, the plus sign acts the same way as quotes around a single word.

Using the OR separator (OR) to give you Google search results in either of two search terms, rather than leaving out the OR producing pages that include both. For example, imagine doing a Google search query for: lakers champions 2009 OR 2010. This search would produce pages that have EITHER one year or the other, not both.

Some examples of words that are usually ignored include ‘a’, ‘the’ and ‘for’, and are also known as “stop words”. There are even exceptions to this rule. For example if you search: the who, Google will suggest websites referring to the band, therefore not ignoring the word ‘the’. Should you search for the word ‘who’, Google would first index websites that refer to to the World Health Organization.

Knowing some of the basics of doing an advanced Google search could narrow your search results easily. When retrieving your search results with ease, the probability that you’ll quickly find what you’re looking for is higher.

New Custom CMS Website Design Template

There was a need for a new custom CMS website design template for my site and a cleaner layout for easier navigation.  I decided to do an entirely new design and change a few things around for the desired look.  Compare the old home page at the left of this blog post and the new one to the right.  By moving the sidebar from the left to the right, using a lighter scheme of colors and changing the fonts, button styles and background, this is a look that I can be proud of to represent my business.

In order to solve the situation with having a clean, easy to navigate website, moving the Custom Google Search Box to the top of the sidebar seemed like a good idea.  Also now it’s easy to add different items into the sidebar exclusive to certain sections of my website.  This clean layout with lighter colors gives my website visitors a more pleasant browsing experience.

As a result, by using a new custom CMS design template for my website, navigation is easier and an improved browsing experience is attained.  Customizing the sidebar for each section is the next step, but for now, enjoy exploring my site for more tips and advice on small business website design.
