Search engine upgrades are becoming more prevalent in just these recent weeks. Yahoo’s gone to Yahoo Pulse, MSN has upgraded to MSN 9 2011, and Google even allows you to customize your homepage now.
It seems that these search engines are becoming more like social media websites since social media is the growing trend for the last few years, including MySpace, Facebook and Twitter. Search engines are constantly making it easier to connect with friends and relatives online.
Yahoo! Pulse allows users to add photos, share links with contacts, and connect to social media websites and other sites across the web. There are even applications such as “The Video of the Day”, or you could create a blog to write on for your contacts to see.
MSN has recently upgraded to MSN Beta, allowing it’s users to share photos, add favorites and groups, and customize pages with animated display pictures signature sounds and custom scenes. MSN Hotmail allows you to scroll photos sent to you through email as an album. MSN even has a media player built right into its Hotmail now, making watching and sending videos through email so much easier.

When you have updates in your business or on your website, it’s customary to post them to your social media circle. With business related posts you allow your social network to become aware of your company and the services you provide.
Offer free tips and advice to your friends and followers on social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter. A great way to attract potential customers is to offer something for free such as presenting tips and advice. Helping one person out could be a possible referral for another, and providing useful suggestions for your readers is an effective way to do so.

To shorten URLs for social media, my choice is Tinyurl.com. There are many websites that offer URL shortening options, and many people don’t realize that URLs can be shortened.
Sometimes when you post URL’s in an email it will break up forcing the recipient to cut and paste it back together. By using tinyurl.com this won’t be a problem anymore and the shortened URLs never expire.
Of course Twitter has automatic URL shortening options if you use Tweetdeck, but when not using that application, shortening URL’s can be rather easy when you know where to go.
