Administrative Contact- recognized authority for controlling and registering a website domain

Adware- Adware, otherwise known as advertising-supported software includes any software package that automatically plays, downloads or displays advertisements on a computer while the application is used or once the software is installed

Blog Label- organizes blog posts to assist readers find multiple posts on a given topic

Blackhat SEO- Blackhat methods use tricks to get SEO results, such as buying backlinks to a website

Blog Tag- filing system for weblog posts

Bounce Rate- the percentage of to a website that “bounce” away to a different site, rather than remain within the same site

CMS- (Content Management System) a computer application used to manage work flow needed to collaboratively edit, create, index, review, search, publish and archive various kinds of electronic text and digital media

Cross Compatibility- the ability for a website to be displayed properly in multiple browsers

Dynamic Webpage- secure and advanced online functional webpage, such as ecommerce, shopping carts and secure logins

Favicon- (short for favorites icon) a small url icon associated with a particular website or webpage also known as a website icon, shortcut icon, url icon, or bookmark icon

Flash- multimedia audio or video incorporated into a webpage designed by XHTML

Freeware- Freeware is computer software that is available online at no cost for unlimited time

Hit- one request from a customer’s browser to your server for the site’s actual HTML stored online

Hosting- storage space on the internet to store graphics and code that creates your webpages

Inbound Links- also known as backlinks, inbound links are incoming links to a website and are an indication of the popularity of a website page.

Intranet- an internal company communications network using Internet protocol allowing communications within an organization

Keywords- the words that reveal structure of an author’s reasoning to aid in being indexed by search engines

Keyword Density- the percentage of times a keyword or key phrase appears on a website page compared to the total number of words that are on the page

Malware- Malware, short for “Malicious Software” is designed to infiltrate the user’s computer without getting the owner’s informed consent

Page Rank- a link analysis algorithm, used by Google to assign a numerical value to elements of a hyperlinked set of documents to measure its relative importance within the set

Plug-in- helpful application for appropriate programs capable of opening certain files on a visitor’s computer

Registrant- the owner of a website

Registrar- company authorized to register domains

Registry- worldwide entity that tracks domain names taken and manages the issuing of new ones

SEO- the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines using natural search results

Shareware- Shareware refers to software online that is provided to users on a trial basis without payment and limited on availability, functionality or convenience

Social Media- supports the need for social interaction with web-based technologies to spread information to transform people from content consumers into content producers

Spam- the abuse of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately

Spyware- Spyware is a type of malware installed on computers which collects information about the user completely without their knowledge

Static Webpage- a webpage that sits there on the web with no visitor interaction

Stickiness- The amount of time spent at a site over a given time period

Technorati- number 1 site to track blogs

Webots/Crawlers- robots that access the code used on a website in search engines

Whitehat SEO- usability to give a website page better standings in search engines by keeping the user in mind with no tricks for deceptive means of rank boosting

Widgets- add-ons or an interactive component of a graphical user interface
